Handmade Pillows and BlanketsPillows are one of my favorite things to make. A basic pillow doesn't take much fabric and offers almost endless versatility with designs. I love to use fun or unexpected fabrics and add even more interest with ruffles, applique, patchwork, and trim. Pillows are a great way to display a lot of my embroidery pieces, too! I generally use cottons because of the fun prints available and the ease of care, but I also like to add interest with specialty fabrics. Most pillows are a sham style with an overlapping flap in the back to insert the pillow. The covers are easy to take on and off so they can be cleaned. Pillow covers range in size from 12" x 12" to 18" x 18".
Of course, when you're snuggling up with a comfy pillow you need a warm blanket, too! Because of the size of my work area, I'm sticking to lap size quilts for now, about 45" square. The blankets are made of both new and reclaimed cottons. (Don't worry, anything reclaimed gets washed twice in hot water and detergent free of dyes and perfumes.) I use a low loft, polyester blend batting for the quilts, so they're just the right balance of cozy and lightweight. Quilts are handtied with embroidery floss in a coordinating color. ![]() |
